Review of the Telstra Essential Plus powered by Alcatel

We have been using the newly launched family friendly smartphone – Telstra Essentials Plus powered by Alcatel for a month now and I am so surprised at what an amazing phone it is for only $99!

Perfect phone for kids

This smartphone is a great option for parents looking for their child’s first smartphone, especially if they are after something that provides all the essentials for that peace of mind but aren’t wanting to break the bank. With smartphones costing $1000’s of dollars these days, I honestly think that the Telstra Essentials Plus can rival the basics of those costly smartphones.

The Telstra Essential Plus has a bright 4.95” screen with an 18:9 ratio, making it easy to use. At only 145g its also super light, so it won’t make a difference when popped into your child’s school bag.

Camera is fabulous

For those kids that like taking photos (like Mia does!), the Telstra Essential Plus powered by Alcatel features a 5MP rear camera with flash and a 2MP front facing camera with flash, as well as social-ready camera features. From creating a panorama, a time lapse or a grid of photos, to cool features such as capturing a light trail (think sparklers on NYE), there are plenty of features to embrace your creativity.

We tested out the camera and was pleasantly surprised with the photos that the camera took! Mia was happy with the photos she was able to take of her baby brother and her bedroom.

Easy to use

The Telstra Essential Plus powered by Alcatel runs the new Android Go operating system, which means the apps are lighter, less clunky and allows for smoother operation. This also includes Google Play Protect, which helps keep peace of mind as the device is secure.

We downloaded apps that are appropriate for Mia. We used Google Play to access plenty of free apps like Hey Duggee, Peppa Pig and Thomas the Tank Engine. The best thing is that I no longer have to give Mia my phone when she gets bored. I carry the Telstra Essentials Plus phone with me and as soon as she says she’s bored or we are on a long car ride, she can use the phone and I don’t have to worry about running out of battery on my phone.

This Alcatel smartphone is also blue tick certified, meaning that those living in rural and regional areas will receive superior call quality on the Telstra network.

Priced at only $99!

Perhaps the best feature is the price. The Telstra Essential Plus powered by Alcatel has all the essentials for just under $100.

The Telstra Essential Plus is available in Black exclusively through Telstra and participating retailers. It is locked to the Telstra network.
