Team Rescue

How Team Rescue teaches your kids to be safe

Finally, a TV show that is not only entertaining for kids but teaches them about how to be safe! Team Rescue is a group of safety superheroes, representing each of our core emergency services – fire, police, paramedics and lifeguards – here to help children understand how they can keep themselves safe. Team Rescue uses music written by original Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page, to teach children how to make safe decisions in everyday situations!

Each episode is about 1mins to 1min 30s long, which is the perfect amount of time to capture young children’s attention for them to learn something important and keep them engaged. The songs are catchy, and I often find myself singing them! The great thing about the songs is that it helps the kids memorise the safety message they are relaying to the children. I wanted to highlight three episodes that we love watching.

Our top 3 episodes

1.Soapy Soapy

One of the first episodes I downloaded was “Soapy Soapy” and a timely episode now that we are asking our children to be more hygienic than ever before. Dr. Jess teaches children how to wash their hands by using a fun song. My 2 year old dances to the song and when the episode is finished, runs to the bathroom sink so he can wash his hands. It’s often hard to teach younger children such crucial hygiene habits, but Team Rescue makes it fun and I often play the song to remind my son that it’s time to wash his hands.

2. Slip Slop Slap Slurp

Another episode that I love and crucial for kids to learn is how to Slip Slop Slap when they go outdoors and I love the new addition that Team Rescue has included – Slurp, which encourages children to drink plenty of water on a hot day. Living in Australia, it’s so important to get children to practise good sun protection habits from a young age. Both of my kids watch the episode and they love singing along and grabbing their hats, putting on their sunscreens and drinking from their water bottles before we head on outside. It’s so important that these habits begin from a young age and I love that Team Rescue makes it fun for the kids to remember and follow.

3. Take a Look in a Book

Team Rescue has taught the kids about hygiene and how to protect themselves from the sun, so I love this episode because it encourages children to read books. Team Rescue explains how they can learn about the world by opening a book. It’s such a great way to get them curious and picking up a book. Even though my 2 year old can’t read yet, he loves grabbing books and flipping through the pages. It’s wonderful to see them encouraged to do so! And I have to say this is my favourite song out of the three episodes. It’s so catchy and I enjoy singing it with the kids.

You can download Team Rescue episodes for free here. They have so many safety and informative messages to teach children and they will love the song and dance to go along with it. You will also find Team Rescue on ABC Kids and ABC iView.
