Lah-Lah Having Fun Live Show

Child Blogger chats with Lah-Lah & Giveaway

We were thrilled to get the chance to speak to Lah-Lah (real name Tina) and her husband Mark, who both star in and created Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band. Lah-Lah is kicking off a new live show nationally called Having Fun, starting 1 July. Before Lah-Lah goes on tour, we get to chat with her and Mark about the new show as well as their passion for music and kids! We are also giving away a Lah-Lah’s Adventures Prize Pack. Enter below…

Tell us what the new live show is about?

It’s about different ways you can have fun and incorporating music in the fun you have. The show is packed with educational elements. For example, in the show, Buzz will teach the children that writing a song is just like making a sandwich. Just the same way you layer a sandwich with different fillings, you do the same with a song, You start with one instrument and then add another, and that’s how you ‘layer’ up to create a song! Our show, as always, will be interactive, as we ask the kids to join in on the fun.

After doing shows for nearly 10 years, how do you and the band keep on engaging kids?

We love introducing musical instruments to kids. We keep our approach simple and pure. Our band is made up of very talented musicians who are all passionate about sharing their love of music.

I think kids and families love the visual aspect of seeing music come to life. Unlike listening to music on the radio, we bring music to life as kids see what musical instruments look like and how they sound alone as well as part of a song.

We also make it about the kids! We interact with kids at all of our shows by asking them questions. Also, after the shows, we take the time to get up close and personal with the kids and let them touch and play the musical instruments. For many, it’s the first time they have seen a musical instrument, so it’s fantastic to see their little faces light up as they experience something new.

Why is music so important for the development of kids?

There has been a lot of research about the benefits of introducing music early on in a child’s life. A child that holds a steady beat, is a good indicator that they are ready to read! Music also encourages and teaches children about social participation. A child who learns to play a musical instrument, exercises so many different parts of their brain.

But put that all to one side, and really children learn how to have fun and be happy through music, which is so important in the development of any child.

How can parents get involved with teaching their kids about music at home?

The best thing a parent can do is sing! Sing with your child. Singing teaches children about confidence, especially when it comes to using their voice. Children who like singing, tend to be more confident when it comes to public speaking as they get older.

Body percussion is also great. Clapping, stomping your feet – anyone can do these things.

Can you tell us more about the Music Room that you are creating?

We noticed when visiting various daycares as part of our school shows, that there was a huge variation of how music was accessed at each centre. We found that a lot of the younger educators didn’t feel confident in teaching music to kids. We wanted to create a tool to help build confidence in educators, that can help them teach children about music. We should be ready to launch by the end of the year.

Why do you love doing what you do?

There is something magical about Lah-Lah that attracts the right audience. There is no greater pleasure than performing for kids!
